Grilled Portobello Mushroom Burger

This grilled burger will make a meat lover choose it over meat! The meaty texture of the burger is the main reason why everybody loves it.

Ingredients

  • 4 portobello mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper
  • 4 buns

Instructions

  • Start by scooping out the stems and cutting the gills of the mushrooms. Make sure to use a towel to wipe off any dirt. Cut a cross pattern on the top of the caps.
  • Take a bowl and whisk the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  •  Add the mushrooms in the marinade and let it rest for 30-60minutes at the most.
  • Preheat the grill to 350-400F(medium-high). Do not forget to clean the grill and grease the grates.
  • Remove the mushrooms from the marinade and place them on the grill. The part with the gills should be facing up. Let it cook for five minutes.
  • Add cheese, switch sides, and let it cook until the cheese melts.
  • The mushrooms are ready. Place them on the buns and serve with the toppings of your choice.

Notes

Key Tips:
  1. Removing the gills of the mushroom is easy. All you need to do is twist the stem. You can eat the gills if you want. But, it brings a very dark color which most people do not like, therefore, it is ideal to remove it.
  2. Only select firm mushrooms. Do not go for the ones that are limp.
